Today, September 23rd marks the anniversary of the birth of Christ. It also marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of believers. I am speaking about the birth of the man-child of God in Revelation 12, the body of Christ.
The devil and his minions are hot on the heels of believers because it is the heel of the body of Christ that will crush the serpent's head.
We are in a time of great spiritual warfare and like any war, there will be casualties. But this will only serve to move the body of Christ closer together and to become more single-minded in the things of God. Through it all we must always remember that "glory only comes through sacrifice" and the Apostle Paul talks about that in this next portion of scripture.
Romans 8:14-19 reads, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God."
Paul is telling us here that there is going to be a time of persecution and suffering for the end-time believer yet he says the things we are to suffer are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. What kind of glory is Paul is talking about here?
He tells us in Colossians 1:27, "To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." What is this glory? It is Christ living and reigning in your life.
Paul talks more about this in the book of Ephesians 5:25-27, where Jesus gives himself for the church as our Advocate Intercessor "That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."
In John 13:1-17, It was just before Passover and Jesus knew his time had come to leave this world "So during the meal Jesus got up, removed his outer garment, and wrapped a towel around his waist. He put some water into a large bowl. Then he began washing his disciples' feet and drying them with the towel he was wearing. But when he came to Simon Peter, that disciple asked, Lord, are you going to wash my feet? Jesus answered, You don’t really know what I am doing, but later you will understand. You will never wash my feet! Peter replied. If I don’t wash you, Jesus told him, you don’t really belong to me. Peter said, Lord, don’t wash just my feet. Wash my hands and my head. Jesus answered, People who have bathed and are clean all over need to wash just their feet. And you, my disciples, are clean, except for one of you. Jesus knew who would betray him. That is why he said, except for one of you."
Why did Jesus wash his disciples' feet? Because their feet signified their walk. In other words, you can be clean before the Lord because you believe in him and you accept by faith his sacrifice for sin but you can still be walking in sin. Paul tells us in Romans 14:23, "whatsoever is not of faith is sin." So Jesus is telling his disciples that their daily walk and their individual actions need to be cleaned up.
1 John 3:2-4 reads, "Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. Everyone who practices sin practices lawlessness as well. Indeed, sin is lawlessness.…"
Did you get that? It says "what we will be has not yet been revealed." It amazes me how we walk around as believers thinking we're all that and a bag of chips when we don't even have a clue as to what we will be when Christ appears. All we know is we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:12, speaking of this same subject, "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
It amazes me how quickly we believers are to name a thing like a church for instance or a Christian organization, a move, movement or a denomination. Oh, I understand why we do it. I just don't believe it is God's way. The Bible account of creation gives us the pattern for things created. Genesis 1:2 says, "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Do you see that? God didn't name anything yet. He's just getting warmed up. It says His Spirit moved upon the face of the waters. Then God said, in verse three, "Let there be light"; and there was light.…" It wasn't until verse five when, "God called the light day,..."
The Church does everything totally in reverse to how God does things. We want to give something a name and then pray for the Spirit of God to move. That's how we get man-made religion. We do a thing and then we pray for God to bless it. We want to give it definition and walls and boundaries and a mission statement. And after we're through with all the conceptualizing, we ask for God to prosper it. But God will not prosper a thing that He has not authored.
Why don't you get on your knees and pray. Let's find out what God wants and He probably won't tell you because He just wants you to obey like Abraham obeyed in Hebrews 11:8, "By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going." Listen, God didn't name a thing until it was already done and over. 1. His Spirit moved, 2. He spoke His word and after all that, 3. He called it.
Some of us need to stand over "our" ministries and "call it"... Time of death, September 23rd, 2017 at 03 hundred hours and then we need to die to our will and say like Jesus did, "Lord, not my will but your's be done". It does not appear what we shall be. All we know is, "when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is."
This is God's process of sanctification. His word says, "Sanctify yourselves" We need to purify ourselves just as we are pure. Yes, you're a child of God. That's not in question here and you've been forgiven of all your sins, but you're just started and your walk leaves something to be desired. That's why we are to live in hope of Jesus' return. If we watch and wait for his return, this will put the process in motion to clean ourselves up. Jesus is coming for a "glorious church, without spot or wrinkle."
This is what Paul was referring to when he wrote Ephesians 4:13-15, "till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—"
This unity, this maturity among believers is the manifestation of the Sons of God and this is what Paul was referring to in Galatians 4:19 when he said, "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,"
We have yet to see the glory of the church and we have yet to the greater works ministry. Jesus said, "greater works than these shall you do because I go to the Father". We have not seen the greater works ministry in the magnitude that Jesus intends for us to do it. But during this time of growing, knowing and great mutual sacrifice, we will see as never before, the greater works ministry of Christ on the earth. The lame will walk, the dumb will talk, the blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will be brought back to life again and there will be no big "I's" or little "U's", just one body and one head, which is Christ Jesus our Lord.
